Tekinfo Transactions on Art, Design, Multimedia and Animation (MediaART) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published by the Department of Information Technology, Politeknik Negeri Padang, Indonesia. As the third journal in the Tekinfo Transactions series, MediaART is dedicated to the dissemination of original research, systematic reviews, critical essays, and case studies that advance knowledge across the full spectrum of art, design, multimedia, and animation studies. The journal embraces both practice-based and theoretically grounded contributions, recognising that the field is defined by the productive tension between creative making and critical inquiry. MediaART serves researchers, educators, practitioners, and critics worldwide who are working at the intersection of technology, creativity, and culture.

Open Access Policy

MediaART is a fully Diamond Open Access journal. All articles are freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription, registration, or payment of any kind. The journal imposes no Article Processing Charges (APC) on authors and no access fees on readers. Publication costs are supported entirely by the Department of Information Technology, Politeknik Negeri Padang. All published articles are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and adaptation provided that the original work is properly attributed and any derivative work is distributed under the same license. The ShareAlike condition ensures that creative derivatives — including adapted artworks, translated editions, and remixed multimedia works — remain freely accessible to the community under the same open terms.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish in MediaART retain copyright of their work. By submitting a manuscript, authors grant MediaART and its publisher a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish and distribute the article under the terms of the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. Authors are permitted to deposit their work in institutional repositories, preprint servers, or other open platforms at any stage, provided that the published version is acknowledged with a full citation and a link to the original article via its assigned DOI. For practice-based research involving creative works, authors retain full rights over their original creative outputs; only the scholarly text describing and analysing those works is subject to the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, unless the creative work itself is explicitly submitted as part of the published article.

Peer Review Process

All submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process in which the identities of both authors and reviewers remain concealed throughout the evaluation. Each manuscript is assessed by a minimum of two independent expert reviewers selected for their subject knowledge in the relevant area of art, design, multimedia, or animation research. Reviewers evaluate submissions on the basis of originality, methodological or creative rigour, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the journal's scope. For practice-based submissions, reviewers additionally assess the quality and significance of the creative work as a research contribution in its own right. The typical review process targets completion within 6–8 weeks of reviewer assignment.

Publication Frequency

MediaART publishes two issues per year: Issue 1 in June and Issue 2 in December. Articles accepted for publication are made available online as ahead-of-print immediately upon acceptance, prior to their formal assignment to a specific issue, ensuring that there is no unnecessary delay between acceptance and public availability.

Journal History

Tekinfo Transactions on Art, Design, Multimedia and Animation (MediaART) was established by the Department of Information Technology, Politeknik Negeri Padang, as the third journal in the Tekinfo Transactions series, joining Tekinfo Transactions on Software Engineering (InfoSE) and Tekinfo Transactions on Computer Engineering and Security (InfoCES). MediaART was founded to address the absence of a dedicated, internationally oriented publication venue that bridges technology and the creative disciplines — recognising that the digital transformation of art, design, and media has created a rich and rapidly expanding field of research that sits at the intersection of humanistic inquiry and technical innovation. The journal reflects the department's commitment to scholarly excellence across the full breadth of computing-adjacent disciplines, including the creative and cultural domains in which technology plays an increasingly central role.

Sponsorship and Funding Disclosure

MediaART is published and financially supported by the Department of Information Technology, Politeknik Negeri Padang. The journal does not receive external commercial sponsorship of any kind. All editorial decisions are made entirely on the basis of academic and creative merit and are independent of any financial considerations. The journal does not accept paid advertising, sponsored content, or promotional material of any description.

Digital Preservation and Archiving

MediaART is committed to the long-term preservation and continued accessibility of all published content, including high-resolution visual materials, multimedia supplementary files, and creative works submitted as part of practice-based research. The journal participates in the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) and CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS) digital preservation programmes, which maintain distributed, permanent archives across a global network of participating libraries. Every published article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) providing a permanent, stable link to the article regardless of any changes to the journal's hosting infrastructure.

The names, email addresses, and other personal information submitted to MediaART through the journal's OJS platform will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be shared with any third party or used for any purpose other than supporting the editorial and communication processes of the journal.
